The Bike Match Network is a free platform that connects people who have an extra bike with someone who needs one. I created the project in April 2020 shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic crippled public transportation across the country as a way to help essential workers run errands and get to work.
Participants fill out a simple request form with their height, location and bike style preference and then one of our local advocacy partners matches them up with a donated bike. The matching process is almost entirely automated via tools that I built which keep communication organized and help our advocacy partners encourage participants to join our fight for safer streets.
The project started in San Francisco and in less than two months has expanded to 10 cities across the country. To date over 500 people have participated in our Bike Match program with 88 bikes donated and 64 matches made.
In these difficult times it's more important than ever to look out for and help each other. Whether you have a bike or need a bike, we're here to help.
